Mason Street Interchange Project Wins Two Awards

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association (WTBA) selected OTIE to receive the 2012 Outstanding Highway Construction Award for Excellence in Concrete Paving for our management on the USH 41/Mason Street (WIS 54) Interchange in Green Bay, WI. WisDOT selected the project for award because of the complexity of the work, the aggressive schedule, and the high quality of the finished project.

The project also won the 2013 Excellence in Concrete Pavements Silver Award in the Category of Divided Highways Urban by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA). The ACPA selected the WIS 54/USH 41 Interchange project because it was built ahead of schedule and at a high level of quality. This is a national award that recognizes quality pavements constructed in the United States and Canada.2012 NE Region Outstanding Highway Construction Award_Mason St_edit_small

“This is truly an honor for OTIE to be recognized locally by WisDOT and also nationally for our transportation construction oversight work,”¬†said Dale Chlebowski, OTIE Transportation Manager.

OTIE managed this $29M construction of the Mason Street Interchange and mainline USH 41 from Ninth Street to Larsen Road in Green Bay, WI. The project involved bridge demolition and replacement, raze and removal, grading, and the installation of three multi-lane roundabouts, concrete paving, median barrier, lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), retaining walls, storm sewer, and a detention pond.

In addition, we provided verification services including reporting, records documentation, materials documentation and testing, and measurement of quantities. WisDOT designated this project as “expedited”, and OTIE worked nights and weekends to accomplish the work within the required schedule.

This project has also been nominated for the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association (WTBA) Excellence in Large Structures Award.
