Design/Build for Runway 11/29 Rehabilitation, Patrick AFB, FL
|OTIE provided $4.6M design/build construction services to the USAF Space Command, 45th Space Wing for rehabilitation of Runway 11/29 at Patrick AFB, FL. OTIE delivered all aspects of the design and construction, including asphalt concrete milling, overlaying with new asphalt concrete, raising Runway 29 threshold lights, grooving and striping, and restoring the shoulders to bring the runway into compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). OTIE performed safety and project management, environmental compliance support and permitting, and badging and contractor access to the airfield. During peak production, nearly 70 workers were active on site—OTIE delivered nearly 25,000 work-hours without a safety incident.
OTIE added value for the 45th Space Wing in terms of “design to budget” by engineering a runway cross slope that met UFC and was achievable under available funding. OTIE’s design workflow used a feedback loop to construction cost during design to guide designers to a final design that met project goals and was constructible with available funding. By use of our integrated design process, the OTIE design optimized the use of 13,000 tons of asphalt and provided an end product that met the UFC.
