Abatement and Demolition of Buildings 946 and 8430, Vandenberg AFB, CA
|OTIE performed a $1.6M demolition of Building 946 (23-year old former x-ray crane shelter, steel beam structure, 300 feet by 100 feet by 97 feet high supporting a 60-ton capacity gantry crane and including two x-ray buildings with 4.5-foot thick reinforced concrete walls) and Building 8430 (45-year old 3-story, CMU block building on a 19,800 square foot slab). OTIE removed ASTs from both sites and two transformers (one PCB-containing).
Prior to demolition, OTIE performed abatement of ACM and LBP and removed potential mercury-containing e-waste items (e.g., switches, light bulbs, etc.) at Building 8430. As part of our Green Demolition approach, OTIE recycled 10,000 tons of concrete into road base and recovered and recycled 1,200 tons of steel. We reduced the amount of material landfilled to 2-percent of the total mass of material generated during abatement and demolition by segregation of materials and aggressive recycling.
