Enhanced In Situ Bioremediation Pilot Study, Design, and O&M, Pt. Mugu, CA
|At IRP Site 1 landfill, we analyzed alternatives to rehabilitate the cover. We developed three alternative conceptual designs that were reviewed with the Navy before OTIE prepared a Final RD Report and Remedial Action Work Plan. The Final RD included cover upgrade over 19 acres, with 12 acres to be capped and chip-sealed so the Navy can use the area for storage, drainage improvements, and vegetative buffers for wetland protection.
At IRP Site 6, OTIE prepared design plans and specifications for an expanded EISB pilot test. We optimized the conceptual test design that had been prepared by others. We proved that dechlorinating microbes were indigenous and that the aerobic cometabolic phase proposed by other contractors and planned by the Navy was not necessary. This optimization resulted in cost savings of over $150K for the pilot test and ultimately more than $500K for the RA.
